Australian anti-terrorism

I found this interesting article that described recent efforts from Australia to combat anti-terrorism. You can find the article here

I this article it is says that the EU recently agreed with Australia to share information about airline passengers traveling from Europe to Australia. The US and Canada already have access to this information, and now Australia will be able to check private data of passengers.

I think it's good to see Australia and the EU cooperating to increase the anti-terrorism efforts of Australia. I hope that similar agreements can be made with other countries.

I also agree that increased cooperation can only help in counter-terrorism efforts. Terrorists are benefitting from increased communication made accessible by globalization; governments must benefit as well if terrorism is to be combated.

In some cursory reading a comment was made that after 9/11 the US tried to impose new rules and regulations as to how the world should conduct airport security. It stated that while this was good for some countries, because it brought the standard up, it was bad for others because it brought the standards down. I wish there could be a universal code of conduct for airport security but I think if anybody tries to step in like the EU, US or UN it would take away from local knowledge create resentment towards any hegemonic organization.
