19 LTTE Killed

Here is some more current information on the LTTE. while fighting in the north there were 19 members of the LTTE killed and some others wounded. Through a series of small attacks and small fights in the north there were several members of this terrorist organization killed, there were also a couple of SLA soldiers killed in the attacks. My question is, when there are more casualties to the terrorist group than there is to the target is the attack really worth it...any opinions. I can't imagine how it would be beneficial to the terrorist group to attack and lose so many 'fighters' without at least an equal number of deaths on the opposing side.

I think that certain terrorist organizations accept casualties perhaps because they seek only to put the opposing government in an untenable position. In other words, it does not matter how many casualties the terrorists take as long as the government views its own deaths as unacceptable--It may be just another way to show that the government does not have control. Anyway, just a thought...

I agree with Luke, terrorist groups can accept casualties if the government values their casualties as unacceptable. Another reason terrorists would accept more casualties than they cause would be to strike fear in the hearts of the general populace. Even if the terrorists lose more, if the people are scared enough to change their habits i.e. not going to the store, the terrorists have won and their sacrifice was worth it.

I have to agree with Luke and Brian. Terrorists aren't usually not as interested in killing people per se, but in spreading fear and uncertainty in the government and population. I the terrorists group looses more people and they act like they don't care then it might actually make people more worried b/c they realize that the terrorist group will stop at nothing to get what they want including loosing some of there men.
